4.19: elevation gain, German & <100mi left.

Day XXIII: Villafranca del Bierzo -> La Faba; 16.2.

🛏:

5€. Similar to our recent albergue owned by an English Confraternity, the one we’re staying in tonight is owned by a German organization. The hospitaleros are kind and accommodating and I’m enjoying understanding more of their conversations than I’ve understood of all of the Spanish conversations that have taken place around me these past several weeks. Five years of high school German is paying off the tiniest bit.

Today was a lot of walking uphill and choosing longer distances so that we wouldn’t have to walk alongside the road all morning. (Besides, when you’re walking 500+ miles, what’s another mile or three?)

After today we have less than 100 miles to go. That feels significant and exhilarating and terrifying and like a lot and a little at the very same time.

Annnd I can barely keep my eyes open, so today is a short recap.

🎒:

I don’t go anywhere without Burt.

🎧:

I listened to Joy’s first solo Christian pop albums when I was younger and after years without her, was later enamored by The Civil Wars (I’m also still mourning the fact that the world might never know new music created by the combination of their two voices). My love of that duo left me following her recent dive back into solo music and it’s uniquely beautiful. I laughed out loud when the chorus of the first song that played after I pressed ‘shuffle’ this morning, though out of context, began: “I’ve got miles and miles to go before I sleep.” Yep.

“.. wind blows, covers every single track. If I wanted to I couldn’t go back. Oh, I just keep stumbling on ..”
