3.29: flatland cavalry, a dog named simon & some more walking.

Day II: Valcarlos -> Viskarret, 15.8mi

Today’s favorite 🎧:

My dad intentionally pulled me aside before this trip and told me to make sure I don’t listen to music the entire time. He knows me too well. I’ve always been more comfortable if music is on in the background of whatever I’m doing, I don’t believe car rides were meant to exist without singing at the top of your lungs or pointing at the people in nearby cars every time the word “you” is sung and if you share new music or analyze lyrics with me you immediately bump up in my friend group, no questions asked. All of that aside, it was pertinent advice and I’m as thankful for the miles with quality conversation and my thoughts as I am to discover new favorites amongst the hours of music I downloaded specifically for these thirty-two days filled with walking.

Tonight’s 🛏:

Corazon Puro (Pension) €18.

Splurged a tiny bit mainly because starting in the afternoon yesterday got us on a somewhat untraditional schedule and this particular town doesn’t have a ‘Pilgrim Hostel’ .. but also not mad about the private room and bathroom (and not mad about the no wifi in the town part, either. I’ll post this tomorrow).

🎒Item:

(Refer to yesterday’s comment about my meticulously packed bag). As overwhelming as packing a single backpack for thirty-six days was, I had a blast intentionally tracking down things from local brands, unique brands with incredible missons and finding a purpose for sentimental items I already had. So far, everything I’ve brought has proven to be useful and after one or three tries each morning, I can get my <20lb backpack closed. I feel fairly accomplished about all of that since overpacking is historically one of my best talents.

Above is an Frankie & Coco bag I’ve used to keep my “go to” documents, chapstick, headphones, pens and the also pictured “Thread Wallet.” I’m obsessed with both (also obsessed with the fact that our current pension has a fire place and the kind manager keeps putting more logs on it for me as I write this).

I’m sure these posts will continue to be filled with the occasional (or frequent?) ramble-y processing, but looking forward to featuring travel things and music and maybe food and who knows what else on occasion.
